With 1 million homeless and approximately 100,000 dead, the natural disaster now may turn into a man made one as aid is very slow to arrive. The need for foreign aid is apparent and urgent.

Ban's announcement came after a crucial two-hour meeting today with the junta's leader, Senior General Than Shwe, the country's most powerful figure.
