Confucius's 77th linear descendant, the Overflowing with Sainthood, Kong Decheng has breathed his last on 28th Oct. in Taiwan. The chief of the First Academic Family in the Far East,was a professor and former Examination Yuan director of Taiwan. Kong has moved to Taiwan since 1949. One of his sister Kong Demao, who lives in mainland, is now the vice-director of the Confucius institute.

Tests on 609 batches of liquid milk, as sold in 27 cities under 75 different brand names, were all clear of melamine, the chemical at the center of the scandal, according to the product safety watchdog. U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the United States would be prepared to reconcile with the Taliban if the Afghan government pursued talks to end the seven-year conflict in that country. The Taliban has been battling a U.S.-led coalition since it was toppled from power in 2001 for harboring Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorist network.
