Today the wife of Harare's mayor and 4 activists for the opposition party were found dead, bludgeoned to death. Robert Mugabe has suggested more violence is on the way, saying, "We are not going to give up our country because of a mere X. How can a ballpoint [pen] fight with a gun?"

A car bomb went off on a crowded street Monday near the Indian Embassy in Afghanistan, killing at least 41 people and wounding more than 100, officials said. Authorities said the attack in the capital of Kabul was the work of a suicide bomber. Among those killed in the attack Monday was an Indian defense attaché and a political consul.

No shock here. Robert Mugabe has claimed victory in the run off election versus, well, himself. Invitations have been sent out to officials in Zimbabwe to attend his swearing-in ceremony. The final tally, according to the electoral commission, showed Mugabe snaring 2.2 million votes, or about 86 percent of the ballots, to opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai's 233,000.
