U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the United States would be prepared to reconcile with the Taliban if the Afghan government pursued talks to end the seven-year conflict in that country. The Taliban has been battling a U.S.-led coalition since it was toppled from power in 2001 for harboring Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorist network.

It's about time someone spoke up on human rights issues in the US. It was there all the time, hiding behind Mickey Mouse. All these while the pot kept calling the kettle black, but no kettle was bothered to call the pot black, until now.
Human rights issues exist in many countries. If they are not abusing their fellow citizens, they abuse fellows of other countries.
Natural resources are becoming scarce, but the world's population grow unabated. I think the future will see more and more conflicts to secure resources, like for example, oil. The US occupation of Iraq, in the name of promoting democracy and freedom, is such an example.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the US was singled out.









I think its rather sad that the US was singled out like this, in a country that espouses so much about freedom, to make this list should be a wake up call.
