Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai on Saturday postponed his expected return home to contest an election run-off after his party discovered an assassination plot against him. Tsvangirai had been in South Africa for several weeks after fearing for his life during the contested recount. With the runoff now slated for several weeks from now, Zimbabwe remains a dangerous place.

Heavy rain, collapsed bridges and damaged roads complicated efforts to get troops and aid workers to the worst-hit towns. The rain drove some people back inside homes even as more aftershocks rattled the region.
